Fonthill United Church |
"In 1842, Fonthill Methodists began meeting in their homes for services until they purchased a church 16 years later. “In 1858, the Methodists bought a white frame church from the Universalists, and when it was replaced by a brick church in 1937, it was cut in half and made into two houses, just west of the church on Canboro Road." Driving Tour of Historical Sites and Buildings in the Town of Pelham. Pelham Historical Society. 200_
If you look past the church, you will find two houses that 'fit' with each other; they are not exactly beside each other, but are close by one another.
"On Saturday, June 19, 1937, at 2:30 in the afternoon, a special service was held for the laying of the corner stone of the new brick church. On Sunday, November 14, 1937, the new building was dedicated with great pomp and ceremony." Crow, Jackie. 150th Anniversary Year, 1842 – 1992, HISTORY. 1992.
