Maplewood Camp and the Honeymoon Huts |
During the summer of 1922, Maplewood Camp was developed consisting of a tea room with wide verandas, a rustic refreshment stand and circular seating around maple trees. The next summer, tree houses eight feet long and ten feet wide with windows, a door, a dressing table and a two foot veranda with a veranda seat on each side were built and became affectionately known as honeymoon huts. To enter the honeymoon huts, there were ladders that visitors could take to climb up the tree. While the honeymoon huts enjoyed popularity, they eventually faded away along with Maplewood Camp. If you visit the Royal Canadian Legion in Beamsville you can see where the camp and huts were once located.
