General Information

Municipal Beach is located on the Southern shore of Lake Ontario in North St. Catharines. Municipal Beach is operated by the City of St. Catharines and offers residents full access to the beach, playground and picnic area. The beach provides tourists a great opportunity to experience natural environmental heritage in St. Catharines and be within close proximity to other recreational parks and trails.

Historical

Municipal Beach is historically important to the development of St. Catharines. The beach and adjacent land housed the pioneers who constructed the Welland Canal. 

Ecological

Municipal Beach is significant to the natural environmental heritage of St. Catharines. The park area is a unique combination of land and aquatic ecosystems, connecting visitors with important ecological processes. Surface features range from sand to grass to water.

In terms of wildlife, Municipal Beach is abundant with migratory birds and fish species. The park is also habitat for small mammals, insects and reptiles.

Recreational

The beach provides visitors with an abundance of recreational activities. Enjoy a walk on the beach, relax under the shade of an oak tree as you enjoy a local meal or simply go for a swim. Municipal Beach is also equipped with a free boat launch, allowing visitors to engage in boating and fishing activities. The Waterfront Trail runs through Municipal Beach.

Adjacent Land Uses

Municipal Beach is bounded from the North by Lake Ontario, the West from Mary Malcolmson Eco-Park, the South from Port Weller and East by Arthur Street.
