Teddy Bear Mansion |
Whether by luck or good thinking the Teddy Bear Mansion is owned by a fellow named Ted. And on top of that he is a friendly, kind, teddy bear of a man if there is such a thing. That description suits him to a T.
As you pass the colourful flowers and mount the stairs you may be met by a fluffy kitty as you enter the tiny shop. There has never been such a room. From floor to ceiling every wall is lined with teddy bears and small creatures from A-Z. You could very well find a small plush zebra.
Hanging his shingle in the Village of Jordan in 1993, the jovial owner Ted Spain quickly established a list of regular clients. He would call them friends. On one website a customer wrote that they go visit Ted at least once a month - and they are from out of town quite some way!
Ted purchased the rambling building on the corner of King Street in downtown Vineland and made the great move across the Twenty Valley from Jordan. He placed his wares into the tiny room, and collectors and grandmas come from all over because the selection is so big.
Over the years locals have become accustomed to seeing Ted working on his hillside-gardens carved into the Beamsville Bench, and wave a greeting as they pass. The kitties curled into patches of sunlight nearbye not realizing they are snoozing on the side of a long winding Indian trail from long ago.
The next time you need a smile, and you can't bear one more trip to the mall, follow that trail along Regional Road 81 to Vineland to find the perfect cuddly present for someone you love. There is something there for everyone.
