Welcome to the Niagara Greenbelt Mid 19th Century Church Tour. This is a self guided multimedia tour that will take you around the Niagara Greenbelt to five distinctly different historical churches of the Niagara area, exploring historically interesting churches of the mid-1800s. You will be introduced to architectural details, construction aspects, interior designs, community relations and the culture and history embodied within these churches. Feel free to explore each church at your own pace while the tour is unfolding.
Points of interest on the tour include:
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Thorold
Trinity United Church, Thorold
St. Andrew's United Church, Port Dalhousie
St. John's Anglican Church, Port Dalhousie
St. Mark's Anglican Church, Niagara-on-the-Lake
To begin the tour we will start at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church located at 24 Clairmont Street, downtown Thorold.
From Hamilton
Head East on the Queen Elizabeth Way towards Niagara
Take exit 49 for the 406 towards Thorold
Follow King's Hwy 58 to Thorold/Niagara Falls
Exit on Pine Street and turn left (north)
Make a right onto Richmond Street
Continue onto Ormond Street south
Make a final right at Clairmont Street
From Fort Erie
Take the Queen Elizabeth Way (Toronto)
Exit at Thorold Stone Road
Left onto Kings Hwy 58
Exit right on Pine Street (north)
Right (east) on Richmond Street
Continue to Ormond Street south
Final right at Clairmont Street
