Beacon Harbourside Yacht Club, Marina |
The Beacon Harbourside Yacht Club has lake access to boats in front of the Jordan Harbour. Visitors can launch their boats here and take advantage of the services available: a double-wide launch ramp, gas and diesel pumps, power and water access at about half the slips, washroom, shower and laundry facilities, a swimming pool, children's play area and a gazebo with picnic tables. Because the lake has a sandy bottom, anchoring is allowed in the basin. In 1897, The Jordan Harbour Company had title to the area around the mouth of the Twenty Mile Creek and began industrial development. However, around the same time, the mouth of the Twenty Mile Creek became a popular spot for fishermen and campers, spurting the growth of a different type of development a lakeside hamlet of modest cottages full of tourists. The area spurred the growth of the Beacon and Prudhommes Hotels, which flank either side of the mouth of the Twenty, now referred to as Jordan Harbour.
With the development and expansion of the QEW, the popular cottage resort area went into decline. There are remnants of this lakeside cottage playground, although the area is experiencing redevelopment so that it is revitalized once again. The Jordan Harbour inland is becoming popular amongst developers, with homes popping up at all waterfront accesses. Often in the summer months canoes and kayaks can be seen boating around in the harbour.
