Stoney Ridge Estate Winery |

In July of 1985, Stoney Ridge Cellars became the 18th licensed winery in Ontario's fledgling wine industry. The winery began at Bryce and Jennifer Weylie's farm on Ridge Road West in Stoney Creek. It consisted of a small barn and garage that served as a retail boutique. Under the direction of winemaker Jim Warren, Stoney Ridge's first vintage consisted of 500 cases of 11 different wines, produced entirely by hand. To read more of Stoney Ridge Estate Winery's history see the link under Further Reading. Stoney Ridge Cellars moved to its new home in Vineland in 1997, a medium-size winery producing a wide variety of red and white VQA wines. "In April of 2002 they added a Pinot Noir vineyard to the property and the name was changed to Stoney Ridge Estate Winery.
They have their own wine library, which contains wines predating a mistake made in 1998, when many wines dating back to 1985 were accidentally stored instead of being shipped to the wine shop!
Tucked away, down some stairs is their lovely little cheese shop. Locals shop here for their special gourmet recipes with hard to find cheeses. Visitors to the winery, can purchase some delectable samples and sit on the patio, pairing the cheeses with their wine; imagine basking in the spring sunshine surrounded by the scent of flowers and the hum of bumblebees.
During the summer months there are BBQs and wine on the garden patio with local musicians playing jazz.
Owner Mark Bonham is a passionate gardener, and you may see him with a spade and a smudge on his cheek if you take the time to wander along the beautiful flowered pathways.
