Thirty Bench Wine Makers |
There is a charm to this winery. It started in the spirit of a small-scale winery producing under 10,000 cases a year on 27 hectares (68 acres) of Beamsville Bench land, and to date it continues as a small-scale producer.
In 2005, the large winery-holding company Andrs Wines purchased this small winery, a great contrast from their other two very big wineries, Peller Estates and Hillebrand Estates.
The specialty wine of Thirty Bench is Riesling, made from a white wine grape famous for being used in the first icewine made in Germany in 1974.
The hands-on approach of this winery ensures that fruit-thinning is used to give a more powerful flavour to the remaining fruit on the vine, and you can be assured that while fungicides are used to prevent vineyard diseases, pesticides are avoided on these crops.
Due to its intimate character, reservations are recommended for tastings, but visitors are welcome daily.
