Friends of Charles Daley Park |
The Friends of Charles Daley Park is a volunteer organization which was formed in 2004 and is committed to revitalizing and promoting the park which is located in the Town of Lincoln.
The Friends with the help of the community, built a boardwalk along the waterfront portion of the central section of the park.
In cooperation with the Niagara Restoration Council native trees and shrubs have been planted throughout the park. We have also sold and installed 21 commemorative benches.
The Ralph Reid Children's Playground
Our next project was to replace the outdated playground equipment with new equipment. With the help of the Kool-Aid programme "Let Them Be Kids" award and the community, the desired outcome was to raise approximately $45,000.00 to purchase and install the new community playground. The Let Them Be Kids award included a 60/40 match opportunity for our fundraising efforts so your help went even further!
We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support of the playground project.
More than 100 volunteers came out on Saturday, September, 2009 and worked tirelessly to make the day a HUGE success. It would not have been possible without the financial support of individuals and businesses whose generosity raised more than $55,000.00. We'd like to say a special thank you to Kool-Aid and Let Them Be Kids for their generous sponsorship and their amazing leadship.
Thank you to the Town of Lincoln who have given the Friends of Charles Daley Park continued support on park projects like the playground. Their employees worked extremely hard on the days leading up to the big build and again on build day. We appreciate it!
Thank you to the Reid family for allowing us to dedicate the new playground to Ralph Reid. It is an honour and a pleausre to meet a wonderful family who care very much about each other and about their community.
And last but not least, thank you to Laura Gibson for leading the Friends of Charles Daley Park through another successful project. We couldn't have done it without you!
It was a fabulous day and many more fabulous days will follow as a community and its children come to enjoy Charles Daley Park." Posted by LTBK-Charles Daley Park
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Mr. Ralph Reid. The new playground has been dedicated to his memory. Mr. Reid served Canada and England in the RCAF between 1943 and 1945. At the time of his discharge in 1945, he held the rank of Flight Lieutenant and earned a DCF medal. Mr. Reid held many positions with the Royal Canadian Legion. He also served as an alderman on the Town of Lincoln Council. Mr. Reid passed way on October 9th, 2007 at the age of 85. He is sadly missed.
The dedication to Mr. Reid’s memory was made during the opening ceremony for the new playground on September 19, 2009. The sign at the playground reads, "This playground was built by loving hands of volunteers within our community to enhance the lives of children and their families."
