Discovering Niagara's Agricultural Diversity |

Exploring the wonders of your own backyard may lead to surprising and unique finds that you may have never known about. The concept for this tour is to do just that- allow for new discoveries to be found in the Niagara Greenbelt Region and to provide the necessary tips and tools for discovery in any region around the world.
The fertile land of the Niagara region is home to many farmers and their wide variety of crops and livestock. The Niagara Greenbelt climate and soil support the growth of many different types of crops. In southeastern Ontario, adequate rainfall and generally hot and humid weather in the summer months provide conditions needed for healthy crop growth.
This tour will introduce you to the importance of local products and show how support for the products found within a region like Niagara can help to better the sense of community and build stronger relationships among producers and consumers. Recently there has been a move in the tourism and service industries to act on a more local scale. Knowing about the different, and often unique, products in the Greenbelt region is a good way to encourage sustainable local consumption and help the community sustain and protect the natural environment.
The local movement is growing in importance in the tourism industry as ideas and issues involving sustainability become more and more prominent. The agricultural industry can play a role providing locally grown crops and livestock to the public.
This tour will introduce you to the local bounty of the Niagara region, including fresh produce, locally grown flowers and essential oils, and farmers markets and restaurants featuring local foods.
